$30 BILLION plant MOVING TO SHERMAN, TX | Texas Instruments Semiconductor

Recently, Texas Instruments announced they would invest $30 billion into Sherman, Texas. Today, we will answer questions and discuss how it will impact Texoma. This plant that will go into Sherman is a semiconductor wafer plant, specifically a 300-millimeter semiconductor wafer. I had to look that up. I didn't know what it was. These chips will go in automobiles, appliances, smart devices, and electronics. When the four-phase plant is complete, it's going to be the size of 24 football fields.

So why Sherman? When the announcement came out, it was between Sherman, Texas, and Singapore. The City of Sherman versus a country. The city of Sherman was so excited at the opportunity. Our city leadership, schools, and economic development all came together and made this fabulous package to present to TI, hoping they would come to Sherman.

 Some contributing factors.

First is Location. Sherman is an hour from Dallas and Richardson, and TI has plants in both of those towns. So that was very appealing to TI to have another plant just up the road versus around the world.

Second, we have Panda Energy here in Sherman, Texas.

Panda Energy provides a ton of electricity, a massive bonus for the plant. And the city committed to a large expansion project on their water treatment facility, both necessary for these factories to happen.

And finally, a healthy workforce.

With two colleges, Austin College and Grayson College, and multiple manufacturers around town, we have a skilled workforce that TI was happy to have access to many local graduates.

So, what's the plan?

They've broken ground on the first plant six to twelve months down the road. They'll break ground on the second plant. The first plant is scheduled to be completed and up and running by 2025. The second one will follow six to twelve months later, and phase-three and four are down the road.

This expansion is a $30 billion phased investment, and when it's complete again, it will be the size of 24 football fields and have 3,000 jobs brought right here to Texoma.

The question we always ask, but what about me? In what way will it affect me?

Well, the city of Sherman is scrambling, honestly. They have two years to do about ten years of infrastructure work. Roads are currently under construction from Highway 75, the intersection at 75 and 80 214 17. If you live here, you're tired of it, but it will be amazing when it's all complete and all necessary for those factories to be up and running. Second, the water infrastructure is there, but it needs to be expanded not only for the plant but for the number of people that are going to bring into town.

They have projected that Sherman's population will double in less than eight years. That's from 40,000 to 80,000 people. What that brings are houses. We have 8,000 single-family homes already approved. They're on the list to be built in the next twelve months. And 12,000 apartment doors. Not apartment complexes, but apartment doors.

All this is needed here in Sherman, and I'm so excited to get it going. So, new roads, new houses, all of that brings what you're looking for

If you live in Sherman now, it will look very different in five years. If you're moving to Sherman, it will be a great town to relocate to. We're so excited about the growth in the area and the creation of jobs.
